Rock ‘n Roll Santiago

My buddy Sean sent me a note saying “Happy Thanksgiving!” and I was like huh? When’s that? Oh! Thursday (before I got that message), I managed to invite myself to a rehearsal of one of the most popular Chilean bands that plays awesome rock raggae (love my Forest Gumping thru the world) then all happy, I walked for miles on this glorious hill above the city – the biggest urban park in Latin America (Parque Metropolitano) I found a new path that goes all around the hill with views all around. So when Sean told me about TG, I was like: Pffft 2 manteaux

Friday was this amazing Burger Records Lat Am Showcase held in 3 bars walking distance from my pad. Bunch of bands – local and from all over the world (Korea, Uruguay, Canada, Australia, Argentina, …). Bunch of nerdy Chilean music lovers. Made some awesome vids. Here is my fave band from the Friday showcase:

The bars were rad. Really cool. Really original looking. In fact, every restaurant, cafe, bar in Santiago has style, design, idea…

I loved walking to the show and back under the full moon.

So yea, I love this place. I used to say that it reminded me of Melbourne (which I dug endlessly). More I discover Santiago, more I think it is hella cooler than that boganville in Australia.

Also the metro here rules. So good and so convenient.

On Saturday, I took a metro to this mini Levitation fest. It’s called En Orbita and the line up was dreamy. My fave act of the night was Yonatan Gat. The same dude whose set I liked best at Desert Daze. This older Israeli guitar player with a killer rhythm section. At Desert Daze he played with a Native American drummer/singer ensemble Eastern Medicine Singers. Here he performed only with his rhythm section. Both at DD and here they played not on the stage but surrounded by the audience (at DD, it was in the sand on the beach; here: in the middle of the room). And that energized the his set immensely. Oh and Jonatan broke his guitar in half in the throws of passion while playing.

It was a pleasure seeing Follakzoid on their home turf. Seeing them play in 2014 was the reason I decided I wanted to visit Chile one day.

Suuns made me feel like I had smoked a big doobie laced with Molly. Very good set.

I saw Oh Sees from a step on the side of the stage and on the level with the stage. And there was noone around me so I could dance my ass off. How does one dance to Oh Sees? It’s my distinct dance style called “Apeshit!”

I met a bunch of cool people and had great conversations. In fact, I seem to keep meeting and hitting off with a bunch of people here all the time. I love that Chileans like talking about interesting topics and not the mundane forced cliche by numbers.
