Mohave Desert February 2021

My very first long American roadtrip started in February 2021 – amid covid – in Mohave Desert. I had a rough idea to tour national parks in southern Utah, finally visit Grand Canyon and see what I can see.

In Mohave, I camped in the most beautiful car-camp: Hole in the Wall. Not only is it super scenic and chill to camp there but it has a remarkable hike starting feet from it and there are some remarkable petroglyphs a short-stroll away.

I spent 2 nights here. I already did a short hike outside of the campsite the evening I got there. It involves climbing down a slot canyon, yelling to check out the echo acoustics once in the wider part of the canyon, then either turning right and doing a long beautiful hilly/mountainous desert hike (which I did the following day) or turning left and doing a wonderful but shorter desert hike around another hill to end up at the petroglyphs (which is what I did upon arriving here at 4:30pm).

Rings Loop Trail is a wonderfully scenic and a cactus-embelished 6m trail that starts from Hole in the Wall campsite

After the ring-loop trail, I drove out to Teutonia Peak trail in hope of hiking up a wonderful vista point past some beautiful joshua trees. My goal was accomplished and I highly recommend this hike but be warn: a sight of hundreds of half-burned Joshua trees is devastating.

At sunset, I hiked the Kelso dunes: a real Sahara-like dunes in California!
